Abstract
The effect of copper (up to 6%) and magnesium (up to 1.2%) on the structure and mechanical properties of alloy Al+2.25% Fe+2.25% Si in as-cast condition and after aging according to the T1 scheme has been investigated. The distribution of phase regions has been constructed for a crystallization rate corresponding to the conditions of casting under pressure, and the composition of the solid aluminium solution has been determined experimentally. An optimum set of mechanical properties is achieved at 1.5% Cu and 0.3% Mg. This high-iron alloy outperforms Silumin with 5% Si and 1% Fe containing the same quantities of copper and magnesium.
