Abstract

The change in crystallization behavior with Sn concentration in the (Cu 40 Ti 30 Ni 15 Zr 10 ) (100-x)/95 Sn x (x = 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8) alloy series was studied. The crystallization phases precipitated at the initial crystallization stage consist of CuTi and Cu 10 Zr 7 for the alloys with Sn, and CuTi for alloy without Sn. The concentration of Sn in Cu 10 Zr 7 is much higher than that in CuTi. The addition of Sn retards the precipitation of CuTi and accelerates that of Cu 10 Zr 7 . The high glass-forming ability in the vicinity of (Cu 40 Ti 30 Ni 15 Zr 10 ) (100-x)/95 Sn x (x = 4) is a result of competition between retarding the precipitation of CuTi and Cu 10 Zr 7 .
