Abstract

The relationship between formation of laminated cracks and stress triaxiality was investigated on 2091 Al-Li system alloy. The number of laminated cracks increased with rising stress triaxiality and the dynamic fracture toughness value Jd increased at 77K and exhibits greater value at thickness, B, of 1mm. As the laminated cracks will lead to the stress relaxation at the main crack tip, the increase of fracture toughness by laminated cracking is believed to be due to the delamination toughening.
