Abstract
Simulations of thermally assisted recording were carried out to determine the effect of the temperature dependence of Hk and thermal gradients on the recording performance. Even in the absence of a head field gradient, it was possible to record sharp transitions in the media. The relationship between Ms (T) and Ku (T) and its influence on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was investigated, and it was discovered that media in which Ku (T) Ms3 (T) had higher SNR and narrower written tracks than materials with Ku (T) Ms2 (T).
