Abstract

We incorporated amphiphilic triblockcopolymers into a lyotropic lamellar system and studied effects of hydrophilic chain length on the elastic nature of lamellar membranes and their higher-order structures. Increasing the height of hydrophilic chains fluctuation of lamellae is suppressed. When hydrophilic chains reach to the adjacent membranes, the lamellar structure is destabilized and separates into polymer-rich/surfactant-poor lamellar phase and surfactant-rich/polymer-poor lamellar phase. We observed typical focal conic domains in the phase separated region.
