Abstract

The crystal structure of YbPdGe is orthorhombic, with a large lattice constant for the b-axis. Reflecting this crystal structure, the electronic state is well conductive in the a-c plane. Magnetically YbPdGe is a ferromagnet with a Curie temperature TC = 11.4 K, and ferromagnetic moments are most likely oriented along the b-axis. The electronic specific heat coefficient γ = 150 mJ/(K2· mol) and a reduced magnetic entropy at TC suggest that YbPdGe is a heavy fermion ferromagnet.
