Abstract

A series of numerical simulations were conducted in order to evaluate deformation of model earth dams during an earthquake in centrifuge test.Although the calculated safety factors for the modelswere less than unity, the deformations of the embankment were rather small and the results of the numerical simulations were in good agreement with the experimental displacements. Further, parametric simulation results indicate that the displacements of the earth dam were related to the soil characteristics sheared from the initial anisotropic state.
