Abstract

The initial and long-term result of coronary intervention has been improved by the newly developed technology year by year. High initial success rate of coronary intervention for patients with chronic total obstruction has been achieved with techniques devised by Japanese interventional cardiologist and good long-term patency with drug eluting stents. Technique established by coronary intervention has been broadly applied also to the treatment of a peripheral artery disease. MEGA trials of various interventions provide us high level of evidences to treat patients with atherosclerotic diseases adequately. Although there is not enough evidences in Japanese population because of poor infrastructures to run trials, the large-scale clinical trials about interventional therapy have been carried out in response to recognition of importance of EBM in these days.
