Abstract
Extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements have been carried out near the K-edge of Nb3Sn in order to investigate the local structure of the martensitic and the premartensitic phases. The splitting of the first shell corresponding to the first neighbour Nb-Nb atoms into three shells has been observed in the premartensitic phase. This implies that the local distortion with the low temperature martensitic structure takes place in the cubic phase.
