Abstract

Photodissociation of Mg+-CH3l has been studied in the UV region using a reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Three bands were observed in a dissociation spectrum peaking at about 27200, 29600, and 38100 cm-1, which were assigned to the bands originating from 2P←2S transition of Mg+. Five kinds of ions, CH3+, Mg+, I+, CH3I+, and Mgl+, were observed as fragment ions. Dissociation processes were discussed from the consideration of potential energy curves including charge transfer states obtained by CIS calculation.
