Abstract
The dynamic behavior of a buckled free-clamped ferromagnetic beam with an additional mass in a uniform magnetic field is investigated experimentally. The results indicate that the responses of an elastic beam under a sinusoidal excitation exhibite chaotic vibrations. The exciting amplitude and frequency for which a strange attractor appears were obtained experimentally. A computer-aided experimental system for tracing chaos is also introduced, which consists of a personal computer and an A/D board and is convenient for the observation of chaos.
