Abstract

We have been studying a 7-ray detector which, uses a lead iodide PbI2 crystal. The detector was fabricated from a Pblj crystal grown by 10-pass zone travelling molten zone (TMZ) method. The T product of this crystal is estimated to be about 1 x 10~6 cm2/V for electrons and about 6 x 10~7 cm2/V for holes. The resistivety of the Pbk crystal is estimated tobe about 1012 Qcm. FWHM energy resolution of the detector for a photoelectric peak for the 59.5 keV 7rays is found to be about 5 keV.
