Abstract

It is known that block copolymers are formed micro-phase separation structures in thin films. We have reported that nano-particles can be prepared by adding a poor solvent (i.e. water) into a polymer solution (i.e. tetrahydrofran solution). After evaporation of the good solvent, nano-particles dispersed in the poor solvent were obrained. In this study, we prepared block copolymer (poly(styrene-block-isoprene)) particles by using this method. After selective staining of isoprene double bonds with OsO4, particles were observed by scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). We observed periodic micro-phase separation structures on the surface of the particles. The detail nano-sized phase separation structures on the surface of particles will be discussed.
