Abstract
Measurements are made of the far-wing excitation spectra of HgN2 collisional quasimolecules for the production of Hg*(3P 0) and Hg*(3P1) in the vicinity of the Hg resonance line. It is found that the A-X excitation is by far more effective in producing Hg*(3P0) than the B-X excitation. This is contrary to the case of bound-bound excitation of the HgN2 van der Waals complex [C. Jouvet and B. Soep, J. Chem. Phys. 81, 2229 (1984); Fuke et al., ibid. 86, 4745 (1987); Yamanouchi et al., ibid. 89, 2975 (1988)].
