N2 - We have proposed a novel local dimming backlight system using alignment-controlled PDLC to improve contrast ratio and power consumption of LCDs. We clarified that bifunctional LC monomer and high refractive index nematic LC material were effective to achieve the PDLC cell with fast response speed and high light diffusion efficiency.
