Abstract

Two methods for feature extraction and characterization of transient scenarios for the training of BWR operators have been proposed in this paper. One approach is a priori characterization of the scenarios based on structural re-configuration, and the other is a posteriori characterization based on time spectra of alarm onsets. The combined use of these two methods enables us to evaluate the cognitive difficulties of each scenario. By applying these methods to the scenarios actually utilized at a training center, it has been confirmed that proposed methods can characterize the scenarios properly compared with the judgment of the experienced instructors.
