Abstract

A transcutaneous transformer, which is COID- posed of two coils, transmits electrical energy for a totally implanted artificial heart system. A flexible transformer utilizing amorphous magnetic fiber could transmit the electrical energy of 20 watts through the gap of 5mm with the efficiency over 90%. The temperature rise of the transformer was about 6°C in phantom test.
