Abstract
The devitrification behaviour of Hf55Co25Al 20 glassy alloy was studied by X-ray diffractometry, transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning and isothermal calorimetry. Formation of a nanoscale structure with a pre-precipitate of the cF96 Ti 2Ni-type phase embedded in the residual glassy matrix was observed upon annealing. We obtained an Avrami exponent value of 2.6, indicating that the primary pre-precipitates are formed by steady state nucleation and diffusion-controlled growth of nuclei.
