Abstract
Structure changes in Zr-Ti-Ni-Cu metallic glass on heating have been studied by x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. It has been found that the first stage of the devitrification process is related to the precipitation of fine particles of an icosahedral phase from about 3 to 7 nm in size. Direct evidence of the formation of the icosahedral phase has been obtained using nanobeam diffraction in transmission electron microscopy.
