Abstract

The formation of genotoxic bifunctional electrophiles from arachidonic acid hydroperoxides during vitamin C-mediated decomposition was investigated. The normal phase LC/tandem mass spectrometry analysis (MS/MS) were used for the study. It was found that the reaction with vitamin C and 15-HpETE produced a product profile that was distinct in its major products produced. It was also found that vitamin E was just as potent as vitamin C in mediating the formation of bifunctional electrophiles.
