Abstract

The structure of rapidly solidified Ge55Al30Cr10Y5 alloy consists of extremely small (1-2 nm) crystalline nuclei homogeneously distributed in the amorphous phase. This alloy has an enhanced glass forming ability in comparison with Al-Ge-TM alloys. The size and the distribution of the crystalline-like zones is independent of the cooling rate in a certain range.
