Abstract

Effect of glycine addition in reaction systems on the morphology of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) was investigated. The morphology of LDH crystals synthesized by homogeneous precipitation changed from hexagonal plate to stacked disc on increasing the glycine concentration. The morphological changes most likely occurred because of the interaction of glycine molecules with the LDH crystal surfaces. These findings may be applicable to the development of highly functional LDH materials through the control of crystal morphology.
