Abstract

In this chapter, the current state of understanding and development of friction-stir processing of commercial-purity titanium is briefly reviewed. The critical issues of this technique are addressed, including tool materials, working temperature, and processing window. A particular emphasis is given to the final microstructure produced in the stir zone as well as to mechanisms of microstructural evolution.
