Geo-neutrinos from kamland

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

KamLAND has the sensitivity to detect the anti-neutrinos produced by natural radioactivity, 238U and 232Th in the Earth. Earth models suggest that approximately half of the total heat generation in the Earth is the radiogenic power from these decay reactions. KamLAND result from a search for these geo-neutrinos is 4.5 to 54.2 events at the 90 3 confidence intervals assuming a fixed U/Th mass ratio of 3.9. This is consistent with the geophysical prediction of 19 events.
