Abstract
A microsized model of a self-reconfigurable homogeneous modular robot that opens up many applications is discussed. To develop a modular microrobot that can actively reconfigure itself, an actuating mechanism driven by a shape memory alloy (SMA) is adopted. A hardware prototype of a 2-D modular microrobot is implemented, and each module is equipped with a control unit that drives actuators and facilitates intermodule communication.
