Abstract

The experimental determination of high-temperature reaction equilibria in the AlN-Al 2O 3 system was discussed. The standard Gibbs energy change of the forming reaction of AlN by carbothermal nitridation was determined at temperature ranging from 1723 to 1899 K. The analysis showed that the third-law enthalpy of formation of AlN at 298.15 K was -308.2 (±1.0) kJ/mol.
