Abstract
A study was conducted on a harmonic multiplying two-stage tapered gyrotron traveling-wave tube to achieve high power millimeter waves by tripling input frequencies. Thus, X-band input frequencies were multiplied to Ka-band at the 3rd harmonic of electron cyclotron frequencies. As a result, the two-stage tapered gyro-TWT done at NRL have shown a 20% bandwidth at saturated gain of 25dB with 16% efficiency when the 4% axial velocity spreads of electrons were assumed at Ka-band with the fundamental harmonic interaction.
