N2 - The heat transfer between a fluid with a free surface and a melted solid wall was investigated basically. Numerical analyses were made by a computational code developed in this study to simulate the phase change and the free boundary problems and to clarify the hydrodynamic behavior of the moving free surface of a droplet impinged upon an ice wall and the heat transfer between them. In order to verify the validity of the code, experiments were performed using water and liquid metal droplets, and ice. Comparisons between numerical analyses and experiments showed a good agreement.
