Mesurement of permittivity was performed using an apparatus, specially designed for GHz range, which was developed by Prof. Makoto.Suzuki in Tohoku Univ. Part of the present study has been performed by a grant in aid (A)(2) No. 15206083 by JSPS.

N2 - This chapter discusses the heating behavior of slags in 2.45 GHz microwave applicator. The results of the investigation of the heating behavior of TiO2 contain Blast Furnace (BF) slag. In heating the BF slag, sudden increase of temperature is observed, and some part of the specimen is also melted. This part became amorphous. Heating of the slag is considered to be caused by CaTiO3 phase, because of lager heating rate of the single phase and its permittivity value is measured to be large, comparing with the other oxides. The application of microwave (MW) heating is to induce cracks in the slags, which enables to decrease the energy required for grinding to extract the TiO2 containing phase. This must be attained by cyclic heating up to relatively lower temperature.
