Abstract

Kinetics of ligand exchange reactions in the equatorial sites of [VO(L)5]2+ [L=acetonitrile, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), and N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA)] have been studied by using high pressure NMR method. The values of activation volume (ΔV, cm3 mol-1) are -1.0±0.6 for [VO(CH3CN)5]2+, -6.8±0.4 for [VO(DMF)5]2+, and -9.7±0.9 for [VO(DMA)5]2+. On the basis of the ΔV values obtained in the present and previous studies, the mechanism for the ligand exchange reactions in the equatorial sites of [VO(L)5]2+ (L=unidentate oxygen or nitrogen donor ligands) was discussed.
