Abstract
The new germanides, MnGe4 and CoGe4, were synthesized by solid state reactions at 5.5-6 GPa and 600-700°C for 2 hr using the belt-type high pressure apparatus. The crystal structures of MnGe4 and CoGe4 are superstructures of the β-NiHg4-type structures. The unit cell of MnGe4 is composed of four β-NiHg4-type cells and that of CoGe4 is composed of eight β-NiHg4-type cells. MnGe4 is a metallic conductor and an itinerant electron ferromagnet with a Curie temperature of 340 K. CoGe4 is a metallic conductor and a Pauli paramagnet.
