Abstract

The Cu-based crystal-glassy composite material with good mechanical properties was studied. The as-cast structure was also studied by x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The x-ray diffraction pattern for the bulk sample was taken from several cross sections assembled in a holder. The results show that these crystals in the glassy matrix act as active barriers to shear band propagation, enabling multiple shear deformation and preventing sudden brittle rupture.
