Abstract

Rare-earth oxide single crystals, such as a garnet and a perovskite, are of interest from the viewpoint of magnetic refrigeration and magnetic frustrations in a low temperature region. Reports on the magnetic frustrations of these single crystals are not so much. We target on Ho garnet and perovskite single crystals, and study crystal growth conditions, magnetic properties for magnetic refrigeration, thermal conductivities and magnetic frustrations. Crystal growth techniques are conventional floating zone and Czochralski techniques.
