Abstract

We propose a hydrogel-based sealed microchamber that enables easy and simple cell culture and drug testing. Cells can be cultured inside the sealed microchambers for the permeability of the hydrogel microchambers to nutrients. Also, drug testing from outside the sealed microchamber is demonstrated. The molecularly permeable, sealed microchambers enables simple and cost-effective medium exchange during cell culture and drug testing with cells stably positioned, which is useful in culturing floating cell spheroids for regenerative medicine and drug testing.
