Imaging of wavefron propagation of rapid velocity components in heart wall at end-systole

Abstract

The imaging of rapid velocity components in waveform propagation in heart wall at end-systole was investigated. A coventional ultrasonic diagnostic system was modified to allow about 10 scan lines from a sector scanner to be arbitrarily selected for measurement and analysis so that velocity signals could be simultaneously measured at multiple points in the IVS and LV wall. The time delay in propagation of steep downward pulses from root of aortic valve near base was definitely detected. The results show that this method offers potential for in vivo imaging of spatial distribution of propagation characteristics of shear wave in myocardium.
