Abstract
In this study, we investigate the influence of overwrite (O/W) noise on the performance of PRML channels in a perpendicular magnetic recording system in order to find the good PRML channels. The results show that the performance of PRML systems degrades if the SNR for overwrite noise is less than 35 dB and the noise-predictive PRML system is also effective for minimizing the influence of O/W noise on the performance.
