Abstract

The relationship of martensitic transformation and magnetism to quenching temperature was investigated for Co40.5Ni34Al25.5 alloy by optical micrography, DSC and VSM methods. Its shape memory effects were measured by three-point bending tests. It is found that the martensitic transformation temperatures and Curie points of Co40.5Ni34Al25.5 alloy are proportional to the quenching temperatures. The martensitic transformation temperatures, Ms, Mf, As and Af, changed almost to be parallel with the quenching temperature, and increased by 8°C~9°C when the quenching temperature elevated for 10°C due to the decreasing of Al concentration in the β phase. The flexural strength was 450 MPa for Co40.5Ni34Al25.5 alloy quenched from 1320°C. It is indicated by bending test that the Co40.5Ni34Al25.5 alloy has a good shape memory effect of double directions.
