Abstract

We investigated infrared transient absorption spectra due to self-trapped excitons (STEs) in NaBr and NaI, and those due to STEs localized at iodine dimers in KCl:I. All the observed features of the transient absorption indicated that the STEs in these crystals have the on-center-type configuration, where the electron wave functions are considerably extended compared with those of the off-center type.
