Abstract

We have investigated infrared transient absorption spectra of CuCl nanocrystals in NaCl matrices under size-selective excitation. The observed absorption band is most likely due to the transition between hydrogen-like Coulombic 1S and 2P states of the confined exciton. The peak energy of the band increases with the decrease in the nanocrystal size. The 2P exciton state of this material is found to be situated in the intermediate between the exciton confinement and the electron-hole individual confinement.
