Investigation of emergency response action of residents based on general utilization of earthquake early warning

Abstract

On 1 October 2007, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) launched the Earthquake Early Warning service for provision through a number of media outlets such as TV and radio. After the EEW service to the general population had started, Iwate-Miyagi inland earthquake 2008 was the first event with earthquake damage. In this paper, the following results of the investigation are reported. (1) Utilization of EEW by residents who lives in middle or high rise apartment building in City of Sendai. (2) Emergency response action of residents based on EEW. (3) Earthquake preparedness by residents to prevent injury in the indoor space of apartment buildings.
