Abstract

Recently, kinetic arrest of martensitic transformation was reported in Ni-Co-Mn-In alloys. The transformation shows time dependence, and proceeds even during the heating process. In this study, we comprehensively explain the reason for such phenomena based on a model previously derived by one of the authors: any martensitic transformation is isothermal, showing a C-curve in the time-temperature-transformation diagram. Our experimental results from an Ni45Co5Mn36.5In13.5 alloy confirm the validity of the model.
