Abstract
A study was made of the degree of assimilation of carbon from a gaseous hydrocarbon blown into a metal melt. The dependences obtained are compared with known patterns of oxidative refining of pig iron in a basic oxygen converter. It is established that the degree of assimilation of carbon from gaseous propane by an iron-carbon melt decreases with a decrease in the carbon concentration in the metal. The dispersed carbon has a filamentary structure with a length of the order of 10 mu m.
