Abstract

Large eddy simulation of wake vortices in ground effect with realistic terrain around an airport was conducted focusing on the airport-specific behavior of wake vortices. We considered here a landing at Tokyo/Haneda airport in Japan, where a wake of hangar buildings covers landing paths under a certain wind condition. We developed a large eddy simulation code for adaptive mesh refinement capturing fine vortex core of wake vortex. Outer boundary conditions of the simulation were provided by the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) numerical prediction model to retrieve the wind condition. The impact of a crosswind over airport buildings on the behavior of wake vortex was evaluated by visualized images so far.
