Abstract
Laser control of molecular dynamics actively exploits the coherence of laser pulses in addition to their high intensity and well-defined power spectrum. These properties of laser pulses are encoded in a molecular wave function to create an objective state using constructive quantum interference, while undesirable populations are minimized by using destructive interference. The same principles of manipulating quantum interference are employed in various research areas ranging from control of chemical reactions to quantum information processing.
