Abstract

The lattice expansion of unit cell in three kinds of nanoscale compound particles, MgO, α-Fe2O3 and TiC was calculated as a function of particle size, by means of the Thomas-Fermi statistical method. The calculated curves agree surprisingly well with experimental data. Both curves increase parabolic as the particle size decreases. Hence we can visualize a physical picture of neutralization of screened effect coming from decrease in binding electron ratio for nanoscale compound particles.
