Abstract

It has been reported that non-uniformity of building height draws the wind above the urban districts to the pedestrian-level and improve the outdoor ventilation, even in highly dense urban districts. In this study, large-eddy simulations were conducted to study the influence of non-uniformity of building height on the transportation and dissipation of total kinetic energy in urban districts. Moreover, the structures of transport and dissipation of the mean and turbulent kinetic energy in the vertical direction when the wind over the urban district blows down to the pedestrian-level were clarified.
