Lifetimes and weak-decay modes of Λ hypernuclei

Abstract

We have measured lifetimes and weak decay widths of the medium heavy Λ hypernuclei, 12ΛC, 28ΛSi and 56ΛFe. The lifetimes of 28ΛSi and 56ΛFe differ from that of 12ΛC only slightly. The mass dependence of lifetime shows a saturation already at 12ΛC. After all Λ lives shorter inside nuclear medium by about 20 percent.
