Abstract

Thermal barrier coatings with low thermal conductivity and high resistance to sintering can be synthesized by electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD). The addition of small amount of lanthania gives the zirconia coating a precisely controlled nanostructure by suppressing sintering during deposition, thereby contributing a reduction in the conductivity.
