N2 - Spectra and decay times of excimer luminescence in very thin tetraphenylporphyrin films with thickness between 15 Å and 100 Å evaporated on Au substrate have been measured in situ at 100 K using a picosecond dye laser. The decay time decreases drastically in the films thinner than 50 Å. A classical model of electronic energy transfer explains the thickness dependence of the decay time at different wavelengths quite well.
