Abstract

A series of samples in Sr-Si-S systems have been prepared by an advanced chemical method to search for new possible compositions utilizable for phosphor applications with the special focus on a Si-rich region, which led us to discover a new compound, not known previously, with a composition close to SrSi2S5. The new compound activated with Eu2+, SrSi2S5:Eu2+, exhibited a cyan-blue emission that has a main luminescent peak at 495 nm with the corresponding excitation maximum at 350 nm.
